A debating area should definitely increase activity a bit, and although I'll say now that I won't participate because I hate debating, it's almost a guarantee that I actually would.

In my opinion, we need new members. Not because we need more people, but because we need new faces. I have a feeling that we've all become pretty predictable to one another, so making topics asking for each others' opinions probably seems pretty pointless to most of us, since we probably already have a pretty good idea of what everyone's going to say. That being said, the more new and differentiated members we attain, the more we can broaden our discussions, expand the forum index to new sub-categories that arise, etc. If you look at really successful Zelda sites (e.g. Zelda Dungeon), most of their forum is actually dominated by outside discussions which probably outnumber Zelda topics by at least 2:1.

TL;DR Broader topic range + a little advertising wouldn't hurt -> More appeal to new people -> New people stay longer -> Increased forum activity.

Exactly what Juggernaut said. Maybe the reason we don't bother making topics anymore is because we already know how everyone else will respond.

Over the last year most of our advertisement has been through affiliation: People find us usually, ask to affiliate, people come from their place, big happy party (until they leave/die out). Sure, it hasn't been all that beneficial (even causing problems, coughERcough) but it's kept the water wheel rolling at a constant pace. We got members out of it too, even though the majority of them were never seen again or visit once in a blue moon.

I'm sure we've established in previous topics going out to other forums and placing advertisements aren't that great, because nobody has the motivation to do it and the odds are against them actually being successful. We could continue to try and obtain affiliates, but people here seem more wary and cautious of affiliation now since Exile, believing they are just simple ad plugs or fire starters.

Note that we also have a Minecraft craze sweeping by us now, so we can use that to our benefit. We have a server, maybe gaining members through that would not be such a bad idea. There is the chance that we could pick up troublemakers and griefers rather than honest, genuine members, (what else is new, advertising in any way is risky business) so if do decide do such a thing Stixx would need to fortify the server a little more.

Finally, in regards to the topics thing, I definitely agree. Stale topics will generate stale, predictable responses. A debate forum would be a thoughtful idea if we could keep it organized (a new topic each week sort of thing, somebody watching over to make sure things don't go over the top). World News can also generate varied responses depending on the topics, so if you read an interesting news article, why not share it with the rest of us? It takes only an extra minute to copy the article/URL, post a small opinion about it and then everyone else takes over. A simple solution to boost the media forum, at least.

Like I said, it would definitely help if we could broaden our horizons a little. It's the same thing that happened to Brawl Boards. Sure, we had a nice little community, but it was doomed to stay that way forever. Don't get me wrong, I love all of you and all that mushy garbage, but no amount of unrequited love will keep us from growing bored of one another.

The gaming idea is definitely a great idea. To be honest, the site would probably appeal to other sites more if we were a general gaming site. I know no one here is going to want to make that jump, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Despite the popularity of the Wii and the Zelda franchise, internet forum interest in Zelda simply isn't as powerful or as far reaching as it would be for games like Call of Duty or Battlefield, or any other cross-platform game. It's the painful reality of the Zelda forum niche. But it could definitely work to our advantage if we were able to affiliate ourselves with a general gaming site, thus making us somewhat of an extension of the other site. We'd retain all authority of the domain and name, but the site itself would appeal to the other members of the affiliate site as somewhat of a ancillary source for Zelda knowledge/discussion.

Also, I believe we're in a precarious position right now, as implementing new plans before we attain a steady flow of new members could stagnate their developments. However, waiting until after the flow arrives will result in the new member's impatience and unwillingness to remain until the processes are completed.

Just a thought. Timing's the key.

We can't be afraid to get more affiliates because of the whole Exile dilemma. Honestly, it was pretty intriguing.

Cop is right.

Anyways, I've thought about the debate forum idea and for now, we'll just keep it in the confines of a weekly topic, and maybe promote it to a forum if it sparks enough debate and interest. Starting Sunday, hopefully, I'll be able to get a topic up with this weeks first debate subject. I hope it's a bit of a success, but my gut says it'll get maybe get a dozen posts tops... please please prove me wrong :P

I probably should have done more in this topic, but I'm stretched thin lately.

Anyways, I don't think I'll do the debate stuff. I usually get hurt and angry during debates and they never turn out well for me unless they're intellectual and not the usual bash-fest they tend to be.

Also, for new members, I'll probably play the "make a fake alt on gamePlaques and spam" or something. I just need a break from school first. ._.

Non-existent. It will never exist because I have no time.
