The forum has been barely active lately. Yes, I know, school etc. you don't need to tell me. People do seem to have enough free time on their hands however to visit for about an hour, but the forums are generally ignored and people go straight for the chatbox. Understandable, as there really isn't much to talk about on the forums and the chatbox is where all the action and chat is. This isn't a "We're Dying" topic or "Need moar members" topic... this is a topic for us to brainstorm potential ideas to get the blood flowing in the forum again. Because right now, we barely manage to scrape 10-15 posts a day, the majority of those coming from the ever-declining Poll of the Day (which I could use help with, by the way) and some forums go days or nearly a week without any post input. We've thought about a new RP (We NEED input from people on this. If we can gather around 8 or so people for an RP, this would be a great idea. It would be a fairly lax and casual RP, going at a slower pace so everyone has time to catch up. More will be explained if there is interest) or a new Mafia (I don't think a Mafia game would be a good idea right now, maybe looking into Winter Break we could arrange one) But will there be enough interest for those things once they actually start up? Acolyte tried in August with a flashficition contest which failed horribly due to only ONE of the NINE or so people submitting something. The Zelda Replay August did alright, but I don't think got the results expected. Acolyte didn't even bother with his third thing because his first two didn't do that well. BudZer's and Acolyte's Lit Club also didn't get much attention. So, if we brainstorm something that could interest the majority of the people on the forum, will it be worth it? Will people make a steady commitment to it? Let's hear some ideas or thoughts. |

Well to be fair, of the three things you mentioned that didn't so well, they involved a good deal of writing/reading, and many people are too busy or lazy to keep up on those things. The one that at least got many participants was, who guessed, the one that involves playing games... They were all great ideas though. Maybe the timing just was unlucky? Winter Mafia is a good idea. A new RP is also good idea, but I don't know if it will take off the way we'd like... Lotus had great RPs with her and even then the activity would die down after a while... I would give it a shot though. There are also things we've done in the past like Site Awards, Scavenger Hunt, and such. I'd be glad to help out to take the burden off you for once. Well, in my opinion, increasing the amount of activity and increasing active posting are one in the same. If you increase the amount of active posting, new members are more apt to stick around. I mean, honestly, I can't blame a single person who's joined here and simply left. There simply isn't a whole lot keeping people around for more than a few days. On the opposite side, though, if we got a flux of users rather than a random straggler here or there, they'd be more able to post as a group, feeding each other until the older members catch on. Advertising, activity on affiliate forums, and an increase in activity here are what's going to help us, methinks. |

We could collaborate on a series of videos or something. Like an LP, but it'd need some kind of gimmick. Or we could make a community for an online game or something, and try to spark interest to other people that way. I don't really know, those are just thoughts. |

Well, I don't have much to offer to this thread, but I do like the idea of a scavenger hunt-type thing. Also, I suppose I'll try to create more topics in the near future. They might not get a lot of attention, but it's a start. |

Well I think a new RP is a good idea and would be willing to help it get started in any way needed and a winter break mafia is also a good idea and again would be willing to pitch in if any help was needed. |

I have a narrow set of skills that involve the literary field, however, I do believe that the Literature club can be saved. Perhaps there could be a decrease of importance on "the book of the month" and more emphasis on reading and writing in general. Perhaps a podcast of some sort is in order. As for RP's and Mafia games, I'm on RP burnout and a Mafia game is a very temporary solution. Edited by BudZer, Sep 25 2010, 10:39 PM.

Time to bump this topic again. I've been patiently waiting for the Holiday season when more people will most likely be a little more free, but we need a little more forum activity. I'm not too concerned about the chatbox; the forums I'm worried about a little. There's a handful of games out and quite a few things going on in the world right now, so I strike it odd that there hasn't been a new topic to discuss for a couple weeks now. Not to mention Poll of the Day has been horribly inconsistent lately... I understand it's tough making ideas, so expect to see some redo's of some polls for a while. A month and a little bit has also passed since we last discussed the possibility of a new RP... are we still unsure about having a new one, or do we feel a little more confident that it could work? Also a new Mafia will probably be scheduled for mid-December, probably a week or a few days before Christmas. If anyone is interested to volunteer to host or think of ideas that will make it different and more interesting than the previous games, that would be much appreciated. |

There should most definitely be more game discussion, yeah. But the majority of that ends up taking place in the Chatbox, because it's much faster. Forum posts seem to be more future-release oriented. I definitely won't be participating in a future RP if one goes down, it just doesn't interest me. And there's a good chance I won't be able to participate in the next mafia, as I'll be staying in a cabin during the majority of Christmas break, but I could possibly participate through my phone. |

I wouldn't participate in an RP either. Mafia possibly, but it's a very temporary solution. Maybe we should make the forums a bit more chatty and transfer some of the energy from the cbox onto the forum. |

I don't know where everyone's ideas go. There used to be quit a number of them floating around here...but now they're mostly all gone. |

Well, if we continue making gradual posts on the forum, we can build ourselves up again. We'll be stronger, a new power... |

Coming from a user who just recently joined, and is still barely active, I think I can give a little input. My case is special, but actually kind of pinpoints the problem. I have dial-up internet, and due to that fact, I cannot access the chatbox from my home computer. Whenever I have good internet access, be it from my school or a relative's house, I open a tab with the chat-box in it, and lulz ensue. Which means that when I am at home, I am stuck with the board itself. And honestly, there isn't much to do. None of the forums get enough activity to provide much interest. A great example is a very common element I see in the video game sections or the zelda section. Someone makes the topic, and gives their point of view. Everyone else gives their point of view. It's done, and nobody else posts really anything. That kind of thing is really unavoidable, but it's what makes the forums so undesirable for me personally to post on. I don't really know how to fix that. Maybe just have some better-quality threads created worth talking about. And there's my view. However, views are pretty useless, so I'll give an idea. From my short time here, I've noticed one thing in the Chatbox. People here seem to enjoy debating. And they can get pretty heated, too. Not turning into flame-wars, but being very active like good debates should. So maybe make a place for that? |
