If they know how to use the English language, they can usually handle anything at that point. I was allowed to watch whatever I wanted. I'm really glad I was never sheltered. All that would have done was given me a rebellious streak.

The humour was a little smarter and better in the older episodes for sure. Futurama, Old and New, still and will probably always will be more entertaining to watch than FG.

Clever, but not funny. This. Also, Family Guy is superior to most shows in terms of humour. If you don't enjoy absurdist humour, though, it's doubtful you'll care much for FG. South Park still kicks all of their asses.
