That's right. It's coming The third (and probably final) installment in the F.E.A.R. series. According to Wikipedia, not only do you control the original badassed Point Man from the first game, but you apparently also get to play as Paxton Fettel, his reanimated, psychotic brother. From what I gathered in the trailer, you actually get to work with Paxton in this game. There will also be "co-op, an evolved cover system, and more scares" according to Day 1 Studios. Release date appears to be set at October 1 of this year, but, hell, I'd be willing to wait till summer of next year if it meant they could make this the best one yet. Thoughts? |

Oh man...that looks good. That series has always been a good nerve racker. That woman probably shouldn't be sitting outside all pregnant while bullets are flying around though. She won't become a good mother if she doesn't consider her baby more. |

You can only play as paxton in Co-Op. In a single player campaign he will rarely appear in anything but the cut-scenes. I would link you to the article of this info but I am lazy. Post later. Edit: New trailer showing off some of Paxtons ability's http://www.gametrailers.com/video/fettel-trailer-f-3-a-r/100657 Edited by Kamigy, May 29 2010, 12:25 PM.

The woman's name is Alma, and she's the mother of Paxton and the Point Man. She's pregnant with the baby of the main character of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin (whose name escapes me). |

I'm really skeptical about this. F.E.A.R. for me has always been rather sub-par, particularly the first installment; the theory of a psychotic little girl who can make drum cans combust violently as she walks by sounds like it borrows from stuff too much. The three main ones I can think of are, in order: 1) Fatal Frame/Silent Hill (With Kirie and Alessa Gillespie respectively) 2) Stephen King's Carrie with the telekinetic ability and 3) Firestarter for obvious reasons. I felt like the F.E.A.R. games were too blood-heavy and gory for my taste-though I'm sure some people out there love that sort of thing. As for a third installment, I would say to keep away from it. FEAR 2 was probably the best so far (I played it through end-to-end) and it seems like it would be best left a cliffhanger. Not the shitty Duke Nukem kind of cliffhanger where we wait 13 years on a rumor, the Alan Wake kind of cliffhanger where we're just not sure what happens next and that's what gives it an edge over other horror shoot-em-ups such as Metro 2033 or Alone In The Dark. If anyone wants to provide arguements to my points, let me know. |

I don't think you're looking at it in the right context. I mean, you can take any piece of work from any kind of genre, and then compare it to another piece of work from another genre and make it look cliche. The fact is that F.E.A.R. is not a novel, nor is it a movie. It's a horror FPS, and to tell you the truth, I don't see much similarity between it and Silent Hill/Fatal Frame. Sure, there are hordes of demonic minions that you have to fight off, but what horror game doesn't have that? Creepy settings? Again, what horror game doesn't? Plus, Alma's not just a Pyrokinetic, though she certainly has the powers of one. You forget that she's also A.) A ghost B.) In two forms (adult and child) C.) Psychic D.) The Pointman's mother. Now, call me crazy, but that seems like a pretty original premise for an antagonist. As for the game's being gory and blood-filled... Yeah, that was what the developers were aiming for, sorry, but that's on you =/ And I guess I can kinda see where you're coming from, but with the way they ended it, plus the fact that F.E.A.R. 3 is actually confirmed, there's really no reason to stay away from it, aside from a fear of the developers ruining the already great series. But you know what? That's totally hit or miss and really depends on the player. So, I mean, if you're content just to leave the story where it is, then yeah, stay away from it. But if you're like me, and you want to keep going and see the story unravel, I'd definitely get this game. |
