What do you think is more important in a song beat (being the combination of all the instruments) or lyrics? I think Beat is more important. Oh and there is no middle option because where is the fun in that?

Beat. Lyrics are good if they are catchy.

Most of the music I listen to doesn't even have lyrics. You also need to realize that the voice is just another instrument. That said, I barely pay attention to a song's lyrics when they have them.

If a song doesn't have vocals I can't listen to it often. I need something that makes me think, and more importantly something I can do along with the song. I don't play any instruments but I obviously have a voice. Rapid fire, angry and loud male vocals is what I like.

I don't like lyrics or beat in my songs. Avant-garde is a popular genre, man.

I also can't give a definitive answer.

Hard to compare. Some songs asound great without needing vocals and some sound just as good without even a beat... depends on your mood, maybe, or the environment. I chose the last option, because although a good beat makes a song energetic and fun to listen to, a good voice can easily sound the best instrument in the whole song, and it makes the song more meaningful and it makes the artist more recognizable and well-known. Vocals are probably more important to me overall, but beat comes right after.

No idea. Definitely not lyrics, because the only lyrics I ever care about are from Bright Eyes or Broadway shows just so I can sing with them.

This.

I'm a classical kind of man (and video game soundtracks) So 90% of the music I listen to doesn't have lyrics. That being said however, I do like good lyrics when I listen songs with them. Rap, and heavy metal screamo crap...no, just no.

Beat but lyrics are important too.

I hate songs where every other word is a curse word.
Any they don't make sense.

I think you're confusing 'good lyrics' and what kind of vocalists you like. A song can have someone singing who isn't that great, but can still pump out some amazing songs (like Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys fame, and I suppose to some ears Henry Rollins and Keith Morris).

I'm very picky about music. If both the lyrics and beat aren't to my liking, I won't listen to the song. When I say good I mean a combination of what the words actually are and how they're sung.

I'm using the word subjectively.
