Today I was helping my 7-year-old brother through the Fire Temple of Ocarina, and began to wonder about the similarities between OoT's temple placements and TP's. Obviously, this area is well researched by others, so I poked around the internet to try and find lesser-known maps to compare different Hyrules. Here's what I found.![]() Above are the maps of Minish Cap and Link to the Past, respectively. Not terribly similar. ![]() By rotating the ALttP overworld and eliminating areas in one game beyond the other game's boundaries, you can see the correlation. A point (1) you have Hyrule Castle, point (2) there's Kakariko Village and Hyrule Town, pont (3) is the graveyard, point (4) is Death Mountain and Mount Crenel, and point (5) the somewhat-populated area east of the more urban centers. There's also a Lost Woods-type area south of the graveyard in MC that might have extended further south between MC and ALttP to its location there. There are questions raised, though, assuming Minish Cap takes place before Link to the Past. Between MC and ALttP, a desert replaces a wooded area. The movement of rivers is believable, but waterfalls in either game are in completely separate locations. Also, there's a bit of trouble when linking these to OoT and TP's overworlds. Anyway, hope I held your attention for a few minutes. Edited by SL92, Feb 8 2010, 12:02 PM.

I'm sort of a big deal

That was pretty interesting, and I enjoy looking into that sort of detail in Zelda games. Cool discovery. |

I've sort of given up on a timeline or any connections between the games (Besides sequels obviously). Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Floods and Geological Shifts must happen like every week in Hyrule since the land mass is constantly changing. Like if you look at OoT and Twlight Princess (since people have been trying to compare it since their maps are easily most similar). Sure the Geurdo Desert and Castle tower are in their respective places in TP. But Karkariko Village and Death Mountain is east of Castle Town, Originally North in OoT. Lake Hylia is closer, but still a little off from it's place in OoT. I suppose we can assume Ordon Village is somewhat near where the Korkiri's Lived (cause of the Forest Temple/Lost Woods). That's south of Castle town, in OoT the Forest was East. Turning the Map sideways doesn't do anything either, because while another part may fit, another that did now won't. And then you have new areas like Snowpeak that can totally mess things up. There's always going to be similarities, no question. You could spot one or more in every Zelda game. I don't think they've made a Zelda game where the map is exactly the same as another. |
