The United States and Russia are pretty much the only nations that have nuclear weapons. Six is nothing to scoff at, though. |

Oh, lots of other nations have nuclear weapons, it's just that US and Russia get the most attention, because it's 100% certain. Nah, there won't be a nuclear war. And if there was a small chance, then life would seem like the plot of Watchmen, and then I'd dress up as Rorshach and start killing criminals, which would be wicked shit. |

This. Yeah, it's not like the U.S. and Russia are the only ones with nuclear capabilities. You think the other world powers would miss out on a bargaining chip like that? Hell no. They just don't broadcast it (nor do they need to without idiots like Bush in power). |

Off the top of my head, I believe the countries possessing at least some nukes are the United States, the UK, France, Russia, China, Pakistan, India, and Israel. But yes, the US' nuclear stock is quite, quite larger than anyone else's, even after disarmament. In any case, North Korea just strikes me as saber-rattling right now. They have to know that if they do anything with the nukes, they're toast. They also won't be able to bully South Korea like last time, what with US troops in-country and in Japan. |

Well, obviously. I worded that wrong. US & Russia are the only nations with any sizable amount of nuclear weapons. Obviously other countries have them, but not to the extent of the nations stated previously. It's 100% certain with other countries, too. It's just the fact that the UK, France, and China all have around 250 average, which, compared to the approximate 11,000 that the US and Russia each have, is laughably small. |

Wow, a thread about North Korea. I was starting to get the impression that no one here cared about international news at all. Anyway, as others have suggested, I believe Kim Jong Il is merely attempting to go out with a bit of a bang. His successor is supposedly already named (his second son, Kim Jong Un), so it's not too far-fetched to think he's getting ready to call it quits. I still don't think he'll do anything significant before his death, though. |

I don't know him personally, but hopefully he won't do anything stupid that is passed down to his son... |

And speaking of North Korea and the peninsula in general, I'm amazed the Korean War is still going. |

...it is? "North Korea has since unilaterally withdrawn from that armistice, having announced its intent to do so on May 27, 2009." Well whaddya know. Anyway, I don't really pay attention to anything international. Sorry Balore. |

It's too bad he didn't choose his oldest son (or was it the youngest?) to be his successor; he's supposedly quite effeminate, which, coincidentally, is exactly why he wasn't chosen. That place could really use a lot less aggression and a little more compassion. |
