General Questions about the Forum
Chamber of the Sages is a Zelda-themed message board hosted by forum-hosting giant Zetaboards. The site has been around since early 2007 and has naturally grown over time, in terms of both forum style and community.
So, wait, this is a Zelda site? How hardcore is it? Do you guys even talk about Zelda that often?
While it is true that we are a Zelda based forum, this does not mean Zelda is the only subject we ever discuss here. In fact, more often than not, we focus on playing many other games, since Zelda is and always has been a very uneventful and generally quiet series during the wait between games. Obviously, you'll see the Zelda craze here rise a couple months before release or after big info is annouced, and then a month or two afterward the game release. So if you're coming here to strictly talk about Zelda all the time, you'll most likely be disappointed. However, throw out a topic related to Zelda, and we'll all have something to say. After all, one of the main reasons we're a Zelda forum and not a pure social forum is because everyone has at least one obvious, classic series we all play together.
How is the community here? Big? Small? Friendly? Loving? ...Evil?
We are a fairly small community consisting of about 20 or so active members currently. We've had more and less members at various times at our life, but, the way I see it, a smaller community is better as more people can pay attention to you and you can make a lasting impact on the site. With a big site, you may get to know a couple people, but unless you hang around for months or even years, you may just remain a no name for all eternity. We're always ready to welcome new members and accept people into our community. Just remember that once you register, don't expect everyone to automatically think you're the hip, awesome person whom everyone loves just from posting a welcome topic. Posting in various topics, getting to know members better in our Chatbox and being a generally friendly fellow will get you far. Using that advice, you can be a respectable member in just a couple days.
What is there to do here? Besides forum and chat, obviously?
We do have a couple things that members can do to interact with other people and break the monotonous everyday forum checking and posting. A Daily Poll is usually made everyday, so you may vote and post in that as your Daily Activity. We also provide member forums for members. If you have a personal project of some sort that you're working on, some works of art you want to show off, or want to turn it into a blog of some sort, then just ask an administrator for one and one will be made, so long as the Member forum doesn't pose to be Social Forum v2. Occasionally, we also have Skype Commentaries on various games, or just social Skype chats. Members also play various games online with one another. We have a Minecraft SMP server, so if you play Minecraft, you are welcome to join. Some members play games like L4D, CoD, Team Fortress 2 and a couple others, so just ask what people play. You might be able to join in with them!
I've got this sweet, awesome forum with 2 of my friends that I made, I'm totally going to post an ad here and then never return/Can we be affiliates with you?
For the first thing: You won't get members here that way. People have tried and it doesn't work. If you want people interested in your site, you might want to build up a trust factor before you advertise.
We are, however, always happy to affiliate with gaming sites of any sort. That's right, we don't restrict ourselves to Zelda sites or Nintendo Sites. We keep a steady eye on our affiliates too, and provide a nice back and forth activity, provided you do the same with us. Note that we will remove you if your forum becomes inactive too long, so make sure you stay kickin'!
How long does it take to register?
At this time, registration is quick and easy. Agree to our terms of use, choose your account name, password, enter your email and any other required information, and submit. No administrator or email validation is required, so you're ready to post right from the get-go.
What is the chatbox? Who hosts it?
The chatbox is a quick, efficient way to chat with the other forum members in real time. When you first enter the chatbox, you'll be given a default name and a green pawn icon, symbolizing you as a guest. Once you've changed your name and selected a avatar for yourself (30x30 maximum size), a Sage will promote your icon to blue, symbolizing you as a member. Note that all forum rules also apply to the chatbox as well.
The CotS Chatbox is hosted by XAT (xat.com). If a technical problem arises with the chatbox, it is most likely due to the servers XAT uses. If you have problems, please contact them on their website. We are not directly affiliated with XAT.
Anything else I should know?
Nothing really, besides the forum rules (which you can read by clicking the "Forum Rules" hotlink in the site. You need to agree to these before you register.) Topics in the Announcement forum can fill you in on stuff like PIP's and the like, as well as the History of our site.
If you're ready to register for the site, just CLICK HERE. If you're still unsure, check the forums, read some topics, visit the chatbox (you don't need to be a member to visit it!) before you make a decision. We're not here to force you to sign up... We want to make sure you enjoy it here before you commit to us.
